As we approach the March 1 primary and March minor-party nominating conventions, a number of campaign finance deadlines loom:

• Tomorrow (Monday) – year-end reports for all federal candidates and officeholders, covering the last quarter of 2021; and 30-day-out reports for all state candidates facing primary opposition, covering the first three weeks of 2022
• Tuesday – day the state reports will become available online
• February 17 – pre-primary reports for all federal candidates on the primary ballot, including those who are unopposed, covering January 1-February 9; and
• February 22 – 8-day-out reports for all state candidate facing primary opposition, covering January 21-Fenruary 19
• February 23 – day the 8-day-out reports will become available online
• February 28 – pre-convention reports for federal candidates whose party nominations are made in county-level conventions, covering January 1-February 20; and
• March 7 – pre-convention reports for federal candidates whose party nominations are made in district-level conventions, covering January 1-February 27.

Federal candidates must begin filing 48-hour reports for contributions accepted on or after February 10. State candidates must begin filing daily pre-election reports for contributions accepted on or after February 20.

We will update our Crib Sheets for all but the 48-hour and daily reports. Those latter reports are incomplete – only contributions above certain thresholds* are reported – and those contributions will be included in the next regularly scheduled report or pre-election report for those candidates facing runoff elections.‍

CD3 (Likely R): The Dallas Morning News endorsed U.S. Rep. Van Taylor (R-Plano) and Doc Shelby (D) for their respective party’s nominations.

‍CD8 open (Safe R): U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R) and U.S. Reps. Lance Gooden (R-Terrell) and Troy Nehls (R-Richmond) endorsed Christian Collins (R). Former President Trump did not make an endorsement for the race at his weekend rally in Conroe.

‍CD30 open (Safe D): The Dallas Morning News endorsed Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Dallas) and James Rogers (R) for their respective party’s nominations.

‍CD32 (Safe D): The Dallas Morning News endorsed Brad Namdar (R) to challenge U.S. Rep. Colin Allred (D-Dallas), who faces no primary opposition.

‍* For state candidates, contributions must be reported if they exceed or in aggregate from a single source exceeds $1,890. For federal candidates, contributions must be reported if they result in a single source providing at least $1,000 to the candidate.
